Miami to Key West Tour
If you love road trips and the vast expanse of the ocean while riding on long highways then Miami to Key West
tour will not disappoint. The drive is about 150 miles one-way. However, this trip is not so much about reaching
the destination but rather enjoying what is on the way.
You get to travel on the stunning 7-mile bridge, across 42 bridges, and Overseas Highway, while you view
some of the most spectacular wide-open ocean scenes, on board a very luxurious bus. That is not all, as you also
get to spend about six hours in Key West, exploring the lovely island town that has been the favorite of
presidents and famous personalities in the past.
7-Mile Bridge
It takes about four hours to drive from Miami to Key West, but you will hardly feel the distance or the time,
when you are witnessing the stunning scenery, as the bus hurtles over bridges and thin chains of islands. One of
the fascinating bridges is the 7-mile bridge, which has become quite popular, as many scenes of television series
and films like True Lies (a movie that has not stood the test of time), Mission Impossible III (spectacular movie
with a fantastic villain), and License to Kill have been shot on this bridge.
The bridge is the highest and longest on your journey, and starts from Knight's Key, which is part of Marathon
City, and extends all the way up to Little Duck Key.
The Keys
Miami to Key West is a fascinating journey, and a tour coach will pick you up at your hotel, and deliver you to
the spot where your bus journey begins. The bridges across the ocean to Key West forming the fascinating
roadway is popularly called the "Ocean Highway" and starts from the southernmost point of Miami where the
mainland ends and a bridge starts to take you to Key Largo.
As you travel down the Highway you come across several "Keys" including Sugarloaf Key, Indian Key, Tea
Table Key, Fat Deer Key, Saddlebunch Key, Knockmedown Key, and Ragged Key. The word "key" signifies
islet in Spanish, and ocean highway is like a string going through beads of these keys.
The scenery will change frequently as each key has a different look and feel to it. At one point, you might find
yourself going along a corridor bordered by lush mangroves, and at another point, you might find yourself
suspended over the ocean with different seas on each side.
Key West
At the end of the Ocean Highway, you enter the fascinating town of Key West, where you get to spend about
six hours before your trip back along the same spectacular route. There are many things to do and see in Key
West, so plan ahead. You can go snorkeling, have a leisurely walk along Duval street, or have a ride on the
glass-bottomed boat. Certain things will be included in your Miami to Key West tour, and you will have extra
time on your hands, which you can spend the way you like, exploring this fascinating town.
